This picture makes a good example of the Great Depression because everyone was so poor. As you can see, this family's house was decrepit. None of the children were wearing shoes, either. This is a good example of what poor condition the economy was. People that were much better off than this family were still hit by the Depression. This picture is a good example of African Americans during this time period because the name of the photo on the site it was found was "Negro migratory workers by a shack." Many African Americans could not get stable jobs during the Great Depression. One of the reasons for this was because everything was segregated. A man who interviewed both an African American and an American of European descent would hire the latter. Because of this, African Americans had to move around a lot to try and find jobs.
